Riess

Riess Enamel

The history of the traditional family business Riess dates back to 1550. In that year, a pan forge was founded in Ybbsitz, Lower Austria, laying the foundation for today's brand Riess. Since 1922, the company has been producing the world-famous and popular Riess Enamel in the Mostviertel region, which has been successful internationally. Here, high-quality enamel cookware is created, as well as useful kitchen helpers and contemporary collections. Riess Enamel is still largely handcrafted in Austria today, is produced CO2-neutral, and is very durable when handled and cared for properly.

One reason for the great success of Riess Enamel is its characteristic design. Collections such as "Classic" evoke good old times and possess this lovable charm. However, the enameled cookware skillfully combines a nostalgic look with modern technology. Riess Enamel not only looks good, it also convinces with its inner values, meaning quality:

Riess Enamel Cookware is perfect for cooking and frying. Iron has a high thermal conductivity, but is susceptible to rust on its own. The enamel coating protects the iron core and the cookware is completely aroma-neutral. Enamel cookware from Riess is also perfect induction cookware. Because: This enamel cookware has a magnetizable "core" made of iron. This heats up the bottom and walls of the pot very quickly. And with baking dishes from Riess Enamel, you can achieve crispy baking results. Cakes and casseroles can then be cut and divided directly in the dish. And even without baking paper, the baked goods can be easily released. Enamel products from Riess are extremely cut- and scratch-resistant, food-neutral, and easy to clean.

What is enamel?

The idea of the company founder was to produce enameled "health cookware", as the conventional pots at that time released problematic substances into the food while cooking. Enameling created a way to seal cookware. This aspect is just as important today as it was back then. Inferior pots and pans can still be potential sources of contamination in the food sector. In contrast, Riess cookware not only saves energy, but also ensures safe and healthy cooking.

Back to the term enamel. Everyone knows this term, but what exactly is enamel? Riess provides a short and meaningful statement on this: "Enamel is glass on iron - fused together in the kiln." This means that the so-called enamel slurry is made from natural raw materials such as quartz, clay, feldspar, and borax. At the same time, blanks, such as pots or pans, are made from iron. These are dipped into the enamel slurry, which is then melted at 850 °C. The firing process bonds the iron of the blanks firmly with the enamel - resulting in a hard, pore-free surface and the sometimes beautifully bright colors of the Riess collections.

How are Riess enamel pots made?

The company Riess produces all enamel pots, pans, and roasters CO2-neutral through eco-electricity from its own hydroelectric power plants in Ybbsitz. During production, natural raw materials such as iron, quartz, clay, feldspar, borax, soda, and potash are mixed together and melted in furnaces at temperatures between 1000°C and 1200°C. After the raw materials have melted, the granulate is obtained from the liquid mass through solidification. The granulate is then finely ground and mixed with additives and colorants. Water is used as the dispersion medium during production.

The iron molds of the pots and pans produced by Riess are dipped in enamel color and dried. This process is carried out by hand. In the next step, the so-called melting in the kiln is carried out at 850°C. The waste heat from the oven that is generated during this process is then used for drying the products and heating the production hall. The company Riess follows the high quality requirements of the European Enamel Authority in the production of enamel pots and pans.

Properties and Benefits of Riess Enamel Pots and Pans

Enamel pans and pots from Riess offer significant advantages over conventional pans. All Riess enamel pans are fully recyclable, as all products are made from natural raw materials. In addition, all pots and pans are suitable for nickel allergy sufferers. Nickel cannot escape through the enameled surface. Therefore, enamel cookware is the ideal cooking utensil for nickel allergy sufferers.

Enamel cookware has numerous advantages when cooking and frying. Enamel is recommended for healthy and energy-saving cooking. The strong steel core of Riess pots and pans, as well as the specially designed bottoms, quickly transfer heat to the food. The heat supply can also be rapidly reduced, allowing for gentle cooking and energy savings. Due to the steel core, enamel cookware is suitable for cooking and baking on all types of stoves, such as electric, gas, or induction.

Thanks to the abrasion-resistant and smooth surface, all Riess products are easy to clean. The surface structure has antiseptic properties and is therefore antibacterial. Other properties include acid and alkali resistance, which simplifies cleaning with chemical agents. All products are also scratch and cut resistant due to the hard surface and undergo almost no wear and tear with proper handling. Furthermore, all surfaces are lightfast and colorfast. All enamel products are taste and odor neutral. Therefore, all dishes and ingredients retain their natural, unadulterated taste when cooked with enamel.
