Suncraft

Suncraft produces kitchen tools and premium chef knives that are unmatched in terms of price-performance ratio. Japanese aesthetics meet European culinary culture at Suncraft to create top-of-the-line knives. The company was founded in 1948 in Seki, Gifu Prefecture. Seki is located in the middle of Japan and is internationally known as the city of knife-making, similar to Solingen in Germany. The history of Seki dates back more than 800 years when samurai swordsmiths settled there in the 13th century. They were looking for suitable soil containing clay, pure water, and coal, and found all of this in the area around Seki. Since then, blades from Seki have been famous for their quality. Today, kitchen and chef knives are made there in the spirit of traditional craftsmanship with its traditions and techniques.

Since its founding, Suncraft has specialized in kitchen tools and particularly high-quality chef knives. The success of the brand lies in the combination of several factors: years of know-how in knife-making, continuous investment in modern production facilities, ongoing research and development, and aligning collections with the needs and desires of customers. This results in top-quality knives that impress with their quality and user-friendliness. A good example of this is the Suncraft SENZO Professional series, which is known for its extreme sharpness. Or Suncraft MU - knives that skillfully combine Japanese forging with European design.

Suncraft SENZO

The name of the Senzo collection is a tribute to the founder ancestor of Suncraft with the same name. It is written that Senzo contributed to the prosperity of the city of Seki by building public spaces and facilities such as the local temple at his own expense. Senzo knives are handmade and branded with the "Senzo" logo. Just as the founder Senzo was dedicated to the development of the Seki region, so too is "the spirit of the Senzo kitchen knives focused on the user," as Suncraft says. In any case, knives from the Senzo series are proof of the high quality of Suncraft.

Suncraft MU

The MU knife series was designed by the Italian designer duo Carallo & Grandis, together with Pietro Leeman, the Michelin-starred chef of the restaurant "Joia Milano". The light weight of the MU knives allows for fatigue-free cutting even with prolonged use. The handle made of light bamboo pakkawood and the overall reduced appearance give these knives a chic, modern look. Design, handling, and performance of the MU knives also meet high expectations placed on professional knives. MU - the perfect combination of Japanese quality and Italian design.

Suncraft SENZO Clad

A solid knife collection from Suncraft with a very good price-performance ratio. The finely ground blades of Clad provide enormous sharpness and stability. The knives in this series impress with their excellent performance and long-lasting cutting performance. Here, the pakkawood handles consist of two handle scales that are riveted. This design feature gives the Clad collection a typical Western appearance.

Suncraft SENZO Classic

East meets West: This collection offers a wide selection of Western-oriented knives as well as traditional Japanese Santoku, Sashimi, and Nakiri knives. The design is inspired by the Japanese style.

Blade material: VG10 steel, coated with 66 layers of rustproof Damascus steel | Handle: red-black pakkawood with red fiber ring

MORE ABOUT: Damascus Steel

Damascus steel is created through a special manufacturing process in which multiple layers of steel are folded over each other. At Suncraft, 33 super-thin layers are typically compressed together, and a special process creates the beautiful wave pattern on the blade, called "Hamon" - just like a samurai sword. Each individual piece has a different pattern, giving it a unique character.

MORE ABOUT: Pakkawood

Pakkawood is a multi-layer material made of wood that is pressed with resin. Compared to natural wood, Pakkawood is more durable and dimensionally stable. Since this wood is essentially impregnated with epoxy resin, it has additional positive properties in addition to high water resistance: Pakkawood is stable, long-lasting, and with proper care, retains its beautiful appearance permanently.

Suncraft SENZO Black

Through a special treatment of the blade surface, the classic Damascus steel appears darker in the stylish collection SENZO Black, giving the knives a handmade appearance. The so-called "Black Damascus" series is a current knife series from Suncraft, which was developed in 2019 and has been in high demand among connoisseurs around the world ever since.

Blade material: VG10 steel, wrapped in 66 layers of stainless Damascus steel with a special "Black" treatment | Handle: a combination of black and walnut-colored Pakkawood, separated by a white fiber ring

MORE ABOUT: Traditional Octagonal Handles

An octagonal handle is traditionally used in the “Wa-Bocho”, the Japanese knife culture. The handle has an octagonal cross-section and tapers gently from the bottom to the bolster. The white ring between the blade and the handle adds a beautiful accent to this knife design.

Suncraft SENZO Twisted Octagon

In this series, the octagonal handle is twisted towards the bolster in elaborate handwork. This allows the fingers to better follow the handle lines, and the knife fits comfortably and securely in the hand. The light-colored Pakka wood and the red color ring complete the typical Japanese look.

Suncraft SENZO Professional

The SENZO Professional series was developed - Nomen est Omen - for professional use. Due to their high quality and extremely hard cutting core made of SG2 powder steel, these knives are suitable for daily use under the toughest conditions, as found in professional kitchens. The blade is sharpened at the classic Japanese angle of 15 degrees and polished very finely. This allows for almost pressure-free, paper-thin cuts. The Pakka wood handle scales are riveted. Nice detail: Between the two rivets, there is a two-tone ornamental mosaic pin in the center of the handle.

MORE ABOUT: Powder Metallurgical Steel

Here, super-fine (nano-)powder of steel elements is compressed, heated, and formed into blocks. This special process allows for a powder metallurgically produced steel to contain more individual components in a different mixing ratio than “normal steel”. This makes this type of steel better quality for knives than melt-processed steel.

Suncraft ELEGANCIA

The deep width of the blade and the gently curved handle immediately catch the eye. This knife shape offers more space for the fingers on the underside of the handle. This allows even people with large hands to comfortably grip the knife handle without their fingers touching the work surface while cutting or chopping.

The knives of the Elegancia collection are made from high-quality, durable materials:

Blade material: SG2 powder steel (coated with "San-Mai", 3 layers) | Handle: walnut-colored Pakka wood with brass bolster
The brass bolster will develop a beautiful patina over time, giving the knife a desired touch of vintage.

Suncraft SESERAGI

The Seseragi bread and saw knives effortlessly cut any type of bread, whether hard or soft, without creating crumbs. This special blade combines different sized sawtooth edges: the large serration at the front of the blade cuts bread with a hard crust without slipping. Soft breads like toast and fresh bread are cut through with the small serration without crushing it.
