Boos Blocks Care Products for Chopping Blocks and Cutting Boards

All Boos Blocks are made of wood. Wood is a natural material and, like so many things in life, requires regular care to ensure it remains enjoyable for many years. The manufacturer Boos Blocks expressly recommends the use of Boos Mystery Oil and Boos Board Cream for the care of your cutting board.

Both the Boos Board Cream and the Boos Mystery Oil are food-safe care products. Both products can be used separately and independently every 3-4 weeks. We recommend you first use the Boos Mystery Oil and then simply apply a protective layer with the help of the Boos Board Cream. The Boos Board Cream contains natural beeswax and thus directly protects the wood surface against water and oil as well as from drying out, fading, and cracking. It restores the moisture to the wood that has been lost through use and washing. It penetrates deeply into the wood and maintains its appearance and lifespan.

The two care products not only protect your cutting boards, but also all other wooden work surfaces that you use for food preparation.

How to properly care for chopping blocks and cutting boards?

All Boos Blocks are double-sided boards, providing you with two surfaces for chopping, cutting, dicing, and mincing. Each side can be used for different types of food preparation. If the board slips during use, place a dry, non-moisture-absorbing mat underneath it. Never let water or other liquids sit on your Boos Blocks cutting board for an extended period of time, as this will cause the wood to swell. To keep the surface of the wood clean and hygienic, use a scraper or spatula for cleaning. If not available, use a sponge with a scrubbing side. However, never use a steel brush on your cutting board, as the negative effect of rough steel on wood is well known.

Apply the maintenance oil to the surface of your cutting board at least once a month. If you use your cutting board frequently, you can apply it more often. Use a cotton cloth to apply the oil, and let it soak in and dry overnight. This will maintain the moisture barrier within the wood.

Note that you should never prepare fish or poultry on the board unless you regularly maintain it. The reason is simple: before processing fish, seafood, or poultry, it must be ensured that the moisture barrier is intact. This moisture barrier ensures that the penetration of liquids and bacteria into the wood is prevented. After processing fish or poultry, always clean the surface. Please make sure not to cut on the same spot of the wooden board permanently. It is very important that the cuts on the board are evenly distributed.

For cleaning, a sponge or a synthetic or microfiber cloth, as well as mild soap and water, are sufficient. The board should never be treated with aggressive cleaning agents. As already mentioned, the wood should not be soaked in water. It should also not be allowed to run water over the board for a long time. After cleaning, you can simply dry it with a dry, absorbent cloth. Store the board upright in a dry place and protect it from extreme temperature fluctuations. Of course, it is an absolute no-go to clean your gourmet block in the dishwasher.
