Boos Blocks Maple Cutting Boards

Boos Block Cutting Boards made of Maple Wood

Maple Wood – the main wood species at Boos Blocks

Since 1887, Boos Blocks has primarily used North American hard maple wood for their cutting boards. It is a rapidly renewable hardwood of the highest quality with ideal properties for food preparation. In American gastronomy, hard maple wood, also known as sugar maple, is the standard for cutting boards, chopping blocks, and work surfaces.

Robust and durable surface

Hard maple wood has perfect properties for cutting boards. It is stable, resistant, durable, hygienic, knife-friendly, easy to clean, and inhibits bacterial growth – provided proper care is taken. The tree species mainly grows in the North American region and is most commonly used for the production of maple syrup. Hard maple is firmer and harder than other maple species and is also highly valued as furniture or flooring wood.

Different coloring with fine grain

The coloring of maple hardwood adapts to any environment. The color palette ranges from a blonde tone with a hint of reddish-brown, to a light reddish-brown color with dark shades. The surface has a uniform and consistent texture, where pores do not need to be filled. Since maple hardwood has no typical smell or taste, it is perfect for food preparation.

Wide selection of maple hardwood cutting boards

Since maple hardwood is the preferred material for Boos Blocks cutting boards, the selection is very large. Here is a small overview of the different series:

Boos Blocks 1887

The 1887 cutting boards are reminiscent of the first butcher blocks that John Boos made in 1887. All cutting boards are made from a single piece of maple hardwood, left natural with partially rough edges. Two sizes are offered with a thickness of 4.5 cm.

Boos Blocks ProChef

The ProChef series is the main series of Boos Blocks. The cutting boards are made of various strips of long wood, are double-sided with side grip handles. Three sizes are offered with a thickness of 4 or 6 cm. Some Boos Blocks ProChef cutting boards also have a single-sided juice groove.

Boos Blocks Pro Chef-Lite

The Boos Blocks Pro Chef Lite cutting boards are 2.5 or 3 cm thick, depending on the size, and have straight edges instead of rounded ones. Otherwise, these boards are identical to those in the ProChef series. There are four different sizes to choose from, with the smallest cutting board having a single-sided juice groove.

Boos Blocks Prep Masters

The Prep Masters cutting boards are really cool BBQ cutting boards with a thickness of 6 cm. Made from various strips of maple long grain wood with a wide single-sided juice groove. What's special about the Prep Masters cutting boards is the stainless steel catch tray. Depending on which side you use, the tray catches the meat juices or serves as a container for scraps. The Boos Blocks Prep Masters series offers three different sizes to choose from.

Boos Blocks Prep Blocks

Now we come to the real butcher blocks made of maple end grain. Unlike long grain cutting boards, end grain boards are cut vertically into the wood fiber rather than across it. With good care, the wood regenerates more easily and cuts are less visible. Therefore, cutting boards and chopping blocks made of end grain are more durable than those made of long grain.

Boos Blocks 4 Cooks

The Boos Blocks 4 Cooks cutting boards are handy everyday boards made of long grain wood with a thickness of 2.5 cm. Side handles make handling easier.
